LostinTransition: Back to the trail at Izaak Walton

Went out for a run tonight with Ian, one of my new running buddies, and we drove over to the Izaak Walton trail for a loop. Dude was still geeking over his 10 miler last weekend, and then had a complaint about the pace we were running this trail.

It was a nice easy run, with low sunshine and cool temperatures, during a perfect spring evening.

4 miles
8:35 pace
34:11 total time
Easy to moderate effort

LostinTransition: 3/17 - 3/22 workouts

Wednesday 3/17
Evening ride

28 miles
18.4 mph avg
1:15 or so
Hard effort

Went out for a quick ride and turned in a strong effort, largely in the drops.  Went out to the trail and really humped about 10 miles into the path.  Was a bit shocked to turn around into the wind.  Averaged just under 20 mph on the way out, had to hang on during the ride back.

Saturday 3/20
Morning Long Run

10 miles
9:20 average
1:32 or so
Easy effort

Ran with Ian on this very, very windy day.  Began with three miles dead into a 20 mph wind and tried to stay downwind from there on out.  Felt good, had another 3-5 miles in me, but decided to run 10 and stuck with it.  Ian had never run 10 miles in his life, so that was pretty cool.

Sunday 3/21
Morning Run

3 miles
8:40 or so average (untimed)
Moderate effort

Yes. I got a little drunk Saturday night.  So out I went to relieve that scotch headache.  And relieve it I did.  Honestly felt like going another 3-4, but I had to get home to watch the girls because Jen had even more fun than I did. Speaking in tongues, that one.

Monday 3/22
Evening Run

4 miles
7:50 average
Moderate to hard effort

Had it in my head to get a good, hard run in tonight and the weather and family cooperated.  Went out at 6:00 after a nice family walk and began at a crisp pace that held up the entire run.  Cracked off a 7:55 followed by another, then a 7:48 and finished with a 7:31. Nice.

Pretty brutal wind, and for some reason I chose to run right through it
Decent effort on the run

Emily and I found ourselves at the Flossmoor Road Bike Path. She and I and a few other friends are all members of an elite society: The Flossmoor Road Bike Path Club. Here is how you pronounce the club:
Flossmoor
Road Bike
Path Club

No, it does not make too much sense to those of you who aren't members. There's a reason for that, clearly.

Here is Emily, my little sister and I, at the tail end of our ride. Not sure what I ate for lunch, but it looks as though it is about to come up.

Here are our bikes. Emily's bike, the orange one, is called "Suzy." My bike is called "Mister."

Ian and I went for the run today, with a nice easy effort. My legs were pretty fried, but honestly, it was my head that was giving me problems on the run today. This photo is kinda weird, wouldn't you agree? I took it from a bad angle. Also, it is from some other day, but I forgot to shoot a photo after our run.

Ian's head looks small in this picture, but I can tell you, it is actually normal sized.

His outfit, though, that is odd in the picture and in real life.

About 15 miles into my ride. Met some dudes who were about to embark on a 17 miler. Early in the season for that, right?

Photo_2

Raining, cold. I was really excited to be out on the trail, though. It has been covered in snow for more than four months.

Photo_3

It was insane, but there were NO OTHER BIKERS on the trail. This dude came over to use the washroom, but he was not out on the trail. This bike is further proof that bikes are sturdy, durable forms of transportation. Also, they are fun to ride when your chain isn't rusted to shit.

After my run. Thrashed and tired as hell. Had a high heart rate on the run, but that's OK. I made it through.

LostinTransition: 03.06.10 Brick::40/4

Went out for a great ride on a great day yesterday and logged 40 easy miles with Harps.  Felt great to be out for a nice long ride, although I have been out at least five times already this season in chilly weather.

Was bragging a bit to Harps that I was in 40 mile bike / 8 mile run shape, "as of today."  Had no idea I was going to give it a run, but that I did.  Hopped off the bike and jetted out for a quick run, albeit shorter than eight, though.

The bike was nice and easy, due to the winds and our relative rustiness on the bike at about 2:30 but the run was crisp with four miles at just over 32 minutes, for an average of 8:05 per mile.  The last three miles were all sub-8:00 actually.

Oddest thing of all was that I was on an empty stomach and I was out between 11:00 am and 2:00.  Noting more than a gu and a clif bar to speak of for nutrition, so I was happy with the effort.
